This is not only the class of thought that makes a man deceive another by lying or by false suggestion, but it includes the belief in doing evil that good may come of it. It used to be called the Jesuitical thought, but this was so liable to be misunderstood, and thought to have some- thing to do with the Jesuits, that it is far better to use the words" deceit- ful thoughts" as including both these classes of wrong thoughts.
