'Christ & Christmas', a small but powerful book, is a summary of Mary Baker Eddy’s life’s discoveries culminating in the Science of the Bible & the Science of Christianity in the 11th drawing with the 12th being blank indicating the infinite has no ending. The infinite can not be defined.

Upon being asked, Mrs. Eddy designated the importance of her writings in this order:
(1) Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures,
(2) Miscellaneous Writings,
(3) Manual of The Mother Church,
(4) Christ and Christmas.
This above order indicates an unfolding sequence from the vision of the City as portrayed by St. John in Revelation.

Christ and Christmas is comprised of a poem and 11 Illustrations by Mary Baker Eddy with drawings by James F. Gilman. Each illustration is assigned a specific part of the poem.

The evolution of Mary Baker Eddy’s discoveries are completely and yet concisely conveyed in this book. 69 Pages ~ THE ILLUSTRATIONS 1 ~ 1. STAR OF  BETHLEHEM (MIND) ~ In Miscellaneous Writings, ’’the star of Bethlehem” is called ”the star of Boston”. What is 'the star of Boston, 'when did it appear, and where can it be found? A star appeared first on the cover of Christ and Christ­mas and ' then in the illustrations, It appeared again the following year in the sunburst of the auditorium of The Mother Church. The Journal described it as shedding its seven-fold' light upon the congregation below! It has sev­en points to symbolize the 'seven-hued white' of the poem, which, in its turn, symbolizes; the seven synonymous terms for God in Science and Health.
The main characteristic of this illustration is the star, generating light. ’’Light is a symbol of Mind.” (S,and H,) In the light four shapes are. revealed. These are more or .less distinct according to their category and the emphasis Mrs. Eddy wished to have placed on each.
To the right, in the lower quarter of the Illustration, is the -head of a primitive type of. man with a foetus- like shape emerging from his skull arid representing the evolution of the human race. The effect of the star of divine Science was to set in motion evolution so that homo sapiens appeared, A mentality was now present which could begin to grasp ideas and to reason. To the left and above the level of this head one may distinguish another head in a horizontal position. It is reminiscent of David with his crown. This next great development laid the basis for the appearance of the Christ-idea. Here.the line of Jesus according to Matthew begins. Why? Because the spiritual idea had been glimpsed in its completeness. Under the star and somewhat greyer, will be found a group resembling the 'Holy Family' of Maryj the babe Jesus, and Joseph. The birth of Jesus signalled the beginning of Christianity or the redeeming power bf the divine idea. The most distinct of all re­ presentations appears to the right of the star and in line with it. 'Recollections of Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian  Science, as Preserved in the Diary Records of James F. Gilman Written During the Making of the Illustrations for Mrs. Eddy's Poem, Christ and Christmas, in 1893 – With an Introductory Critique by Gilbert C. Carpenter, C.S.B., Sometime Assistant Secretary to Mrs. Eddy, and Gilbert C. Carpenter, Jr. C.S.B.' includes 31 page Introductory Critique by Gilbert C. Carpenter Jr. CSB.

     The writer of these records first appeared to Mrs. Eddy as a lone, homeless wanderer, with a native ability for picture making. Since then it has appeared that there was much truth in this, for a little retrospective analysis has revealed that he had, indeed, through many years, been peculiarly, and often literally, a lone wandering seeker as well as a homeless one seeking even from his youth, the definition and fulfilment of soulful, but yet undefined ideals. 

     A vague, nameless sense of Infinite Beauty attended his thought from childhood, and as he grew toward maturity, the things that had dominated his thought before grew in urgency and pressed him to find the opportunity for their unfoldment in some appropriate, practical action. 

     In order to break the seeming limitations of his outward circumstances which appeared to bar his way to ideal unfoldment and to forbid education along usual academic training, he found himself ready to accept joyfully, at the age of twenty, a simple, humble way that was then presented to him through the kindly impulse of a neighbor who, knowing of his exceptional capacity for drawing, offered to pay him if he would make for him a good pencil drawing of his home place, thus unconsciously pointing a way of gaining a self-supporting art-practice that was felt to be necessary to the successful art-endeavor aspired to.  -- Please click this description to view or download complete publication
1941 ~ 1060 Pages ~ The title of this book,  Angelic Overtures of Mary Baker Eddy's Christ and Christmas, has been chosen in the light of Mrs. Eddy's placement of Christ and Christmas in the charge of 'angels, with overtures' to 'announce' its 'Principle and idea,' her statement in an article in Miscellaneous Writings under the title of 'Christ and Christmas' reading as follows: ' ... Christian Science and its art will rise triumphant; ... Angels, with overtures, hold charge over both, and announce their Principle and idea' (Mis. 374: 11-16)-implying that such angels alone hold the key to the interpretation of Christ and Christmas. Could a book which draws its every life breath from the inspiriting premises of Mrs. Eddy's own statements do other than place itself under the same angelic charge by its title, thereby insuring that its presentation will be true to Mrs. Eddy's vision and song?
Thus Mrs. Eddy has locked the interpretation of Christ and Christmas with the golden key of the spiritual idea which hears only
in tones of the musical cadence of angelic 'overtures,' and so speaks to human heads and hearts. The words 'heads' and 'hearts' are employed because Mrs. Eddy says that 'music is the rhythm of head and heart,' S. & H. 213:26. So an intelligent understanding of what the angels are singing in their 'overtures' of Christ and Christmas is as important to the 'head' of the listener as the rhythmical melodic tones of their song are to his 'heart.'
