"The author and compiler of this book, a retired civil and sales engineer and not a member of any church, was exceedingly skeptical when he first investigated the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and was quite sure that many of her statements were ridiculous nonsense. Later, one of those “ridiculous” statements came into focus with a clear, self-evident meaning, a meaning higher than the surface meaning, and he was amazed at the simple yet profound spiritual idea and its far reaching implications. He knew that he had found a touch of the spirit of God, and that it was this spirit which had inspired Mrs. Eddy’s writings and also the books of the Bible. Many statements by Mrs. Eddy, however, continued to be impossible to believe, yet, subsequently the spiritual meaning usually would unfold and be understood.
