We didn’t Start the Fire ~ Billy Joel
History of main events which had an impact on America & other countries. These events had an effect on the current period as well as long term cultural changes. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a radio mainstay. Unfortunately, few people realized the long-term influence these events would have on humanity.
In 1989, a 21-year old friend of Billy Joel was complaining about how crazy it was to be living in the period of 1969-1989. Billy Joel did some research. He discovered 1969-1989 was filled with similar extremes compared to 1949-1969. History repeats itself because humanity does not learn from history.
The lyrics will help to keep up with the fast tempo of the music. Lyrics provided to better understand the strong message.

Julia Ward Howe wrote the lyrics to “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” after visiting a Union Army Camp on the Potomac River near Washington D.C. in December of 1861. Her ancestors were famous during The American Revolutionary War – While visiting the army camp, she heard a favorite marching song of the Union Army. The song was set to the melody from the parody song about a Scottish Sergeant in the 12th Massachusetts Regiment. The Battle Hymn of the Republic History ~ 10 pg pdf +images. The Kennedy Center
Battle Hymn of the Republic ~ Lyrics MINE EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLORY of the coming of the lord, He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored, He hath loosed his fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword, His truth is marching on. Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps, They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps, I can read his righteous sentence in the dim and daring lamps, His day is marching on. Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! His day is marching on I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel, “As ye deal with My contemners so with you My grace shall deal,” Let the Hero born of woman crush the serpent with His heel, Since God is marching on. Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat, He is sitting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat, Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet, Our God is marching on. Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me, As He died to make men holy let us die to make men free, While God is marching on. Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! While God is marching on He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave, He is Wisdom to the mighty, He is Succour to the brave, So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of Time His slave, Our God is marching on. Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah Glory! Glory ! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.
