These Study Sessions Talks
are the result of many studies by a group of Christian Science
students in England. They first decided to study the textbook
Science and Health, with Key to
the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, chapter by chapter,
from the standpoint of the seven synonymous terms for God. At
the end of the study of each chapter, W. Gordon Brown put on
record a summary of what had been brought to light.
The study of the textbook, the first series, was followed with a
study of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, the second
series. This study of the Bible led, in turn, to a third series
on the spiritual interpretation of World Civilization. Two more
supplementary series were made, namely, The Nothingness of
Animal Magnetism and The Open Door.
The talks of the study sessions summaries, brought by Gordon
Brown, are arranged into 5 sections:
1. Science and Health

3. World Civilization
4. The Nothingness of Animal Magnetism
5. The Open Door
The whole series can be listened to below (in mp3) or they can
be ordered as audio CD's from the
Christian Science Foundation. The recordings go together
with 6 charts and one Triptych (see below). The Mary Baker Eddy Science
Institute has also made a transcript of the recordings on the
first section on Science and Health. The other sections
will follow. Many thanks to the volunteer who has so kindly
transcribed the recordings for us and many thanks to the
Christian Science Foundation for previously digitizing the
cassette tapes and for giving us permission to share them on our
website.

1. Science and
Health
by W. Gordon Brown
The first series concerning a study of the Christian Science
textbook took place from 1969 to 1977. The study is based on the
text as a whole, from the standpoint of the different categories
of capitalized synonymous terms for God which permeate it. The
purpose of sharing the study is to encourage students to develop
and refresh their understanding of God by pondering deeply the
use of these terms — both individually and in their relationship
with one another, always within the flow of the one whole
context.
The first recording introduces the method and spirit of the
study and includes a glance at the Preface. Subsequent
recordings aim to summarize the messages of the chapters one by
one. Each chapter summary is made after a detailed study of the
particular chapter with a group of students from London.
