Biography and History

Excerpt: "While most of you from personal knowledge have the following information, it is wise to have in writing the facts concerning our teacher and her work. Mrs. Le Blond became a member of The Mother Church on November 6, 1914. She was a member of Fifth Church, San Francisco, when it met in Native Sons Hall and before the present church edifice was built. In fact, she was president of that Church when the cornerstone was laid. Mrs. Le Blond has served her branch church in almost every capacity, and was a strong advocate of Local Self-government. (Manual Article XXIII, Sect. 1.) When she moved to San Mateo in 1951, she transferred her membership to First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Burlingame.

"Mrs. Le Blond's Primary Class instruction was under Mrs. Eleanor V. Le Blond, C.S.B., who was a member of the 1910 Metaphysical College taught by Bicknell Young. As you know, Mr. Young was appointed to teach this College by Mrs. Eddy after the passing of Mr. Kimball, who had taught the previous Colleges. After the passing of Mrs. Eleanor V. Le Blond, our teacher attended the Bicknell Young Association in Chicago for many years.

"In 1937 Mrs. Le Blond became a member of the Metaphysical College, also taught by Mr. Bicknell Young. Therefore, it will be clearly seen that our teacher had a most unique privilege in her teaching instruction in Christian Science, and thus in turn was able to give us this same unadulterated high quality. Ours, too, has been an unusual privilege, as the above facts indicate."

Christian Science versus Communism - 4 pgs
  Mildred L. LeBlond
5 "To an American, the term ‘socialism’ is a natural antipathy, for instinctively he recoils from anything, which he believes advocates the destruction or tearing down of his prized heritage of individual freedom. For this reason the Socialist Party, per se, receives very little support. As I have said, however, 'Socialism is subtle.' It is a serpent masquerading as the Love of God advocating all things for all men, but in the wrong way. Seldom, if ever, do the sponsors of a plan or law involving the theory of Socialism openly declare it as such, for they know it would be defeated. Their aim, therefore, is to couch the phraseology of their bill or plan in such a way that none but the very alert can recognize it as socialistic."

Individual Industry - 3 pgs
  Mildred L. LeBlond
6 "Individual industry has been the backbone of the growth of America. Nay more, we may say that individual industry conceived this country and its possibilities. When certain individuals in England called the Puritans realized there was no religious or economic freedom to be had there, they started out to establish a new religious and economic order. The first step in this direction was to Holland, but evidently the law already existing there prevented the freedom these individuals knew was possible, so they came to a new world where no set form of governmental enslavement existed. Here they would be free to set up a form of government, which would give the individual religious and economic freedom."

Freedom - 8 pgs
  Mildred L. LeBlond
11 "It is important to know what freedom is and how it is accomplished. It is not just by the rejection of error, but to know a thing is not true. It is the individual alone who can make evil an unreality. Actually, freedom begins with the rejection of error. Freedom comes to the beholder first, and this is divine freedom -- the only freedom there is."

Individuality, or the Bright and Morning Star - 5 pgs
  Mildred L. LeBlond
18 "Individuals seem to think of themselves in a human way, as one of many, and wait for others to accomplish things. Anything to be done must be accomplished by the individual. What can I do about the situation? If I believe I am only one, humanly, little could be done. But understanding myself -- the Only One -- that One could accomplish a great deal. We must be more interested to “enlarge the borders of our tent” -- understand our God being."
